These days, Chris Evans is blissfully in love with Jenny Slate, but his very first heartbreak is a big part of the reason he’s such a huge star now.
Evans sat down with W Magazine and opened up about how he was bitten by the acting bug. As with all great stories, it starts with a girl. When Evans was just 12 years old, he auditioned for his first school play and didn’t end up getting the lead role.
“I played the supporting lead, which was just as good,” he explained. “I ended up dating one of the more popular girls as a result, and then the second the play was over, she dumped me. And I learned then the power of getting a good role.”
After learning a good role could land him popular drama girls, and genuinely enjoying his time on stage, Evans continued acting in community theaters all through middle and high school. “That’s the good thing about doing community theater. The ratio of guy to girl is drastically imbalanced, so you have a much greater chance of getting a good part.”
